According to ABC News Oct. 5, China has shut down tens of thousands of Chinese Internet Web sites, including RSS feeds. forums and blogs. ABC puts the number of sites closed at 18, 401.

The move is apparently in advance of a national discussion about the course of that country during the next five years, and political leaders don’t want citizens to have political discourse over the Net.
