The Associated Press is running a story abut Comcast interfering with file sharing, amounting to a kind of “data discrimination,” which places a low priority for file-sharing platforms. It isn’t exactly a blocking of traffic, but a kind of filtering that could, in effect, cut off communicatons at some point in a file’s transmission, particularly video or audio files.
This has serious ramifications for the likes of BitTorrent, eDoncky, Gnutella and other file-sharing programs. Perhaps Comcast is worried about the bandwidth such programs consume, or there may be another reason hidden from non-company eyes.
